Milborne Port Conservation Area - review of the Conservation
Area boundary
The District Council is undertaking a review of the Milborne
Port Conservation Area and we are consulting the local community
and property occupiers who may be affected by the proposed
changes.
The Council has a duty to review conservation areas from time to
time to ensure that the area designated is still appropriate. This
Conservation Area was first designated in 1988 and it is now time
to carry out a review.
A Conservation Area is designated in order to preserve an area's
character when making planning decisions about development. The
designation of a Conservation Area does not prevent new development
or change but seeks to ensure that it will preserve or enhance the
area's character and any new buildings make a positive contribution
to the area. In conservation areas normal permitted development
rights are restricted, trees are protected and extra publicity is
given to planning applications. More information on
conservation areas.
The changes to the conservation area, if approved, may affect
your property/the property you use or live in. The purpose of this
letter to is to make you aware of the proposals and to provide an
opportunity for you to comment if you wish to.
Maps of the
existing and proposed changes to the area and the Key to the changes.
The proposals maps and documents will also be available for
inspection at the Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil and
Milborne Port Parish Council Office.
Changes to the boundary will not come into force until after the
satisfactory conclusion of the consultation process and a formal
decision to designate has been made by the Council's Area East
Committee.
A draft appraisal of the character of the
conservation area has also been prepared, designed to describe what
is special about the area and support the reason for its
designation.

Somerton Conservation Area - review of the Conservation Area
boundary
The District Council has started a review of the Somerton
Conservation Area and we are consulting the local community and
property owners or occupiers who may be affected by the proposed
changes.
The Council has a duty to review conservation areas from time to
time to ensure that the area designated is still appropriate. The
Somerton Conservation Area was first designated in 1970 and
extended in 1978 and its review is now overdue.
A Conservation Area is a tool of the planning system that
aims to preserve an area's character when making decisions about
development. The designation of a Conservation Area does not
prevent new development or change from occurring but seeks to
manage it in order to preserve or enhance the area's character and
ensure that new building makes a positive contribution. In
conservation areas normal permitted development rights are
restricted, trees are protected and extra publicity is given to
planning applications. The changes to the conservation area,
if approved, may affect your property/the property you use or live
in.

Fore Street, Chard
The grade 1 listed buildings at 7-13 Fore Street in Chard are
some of the finest in the area but have suffered in varying degrees
from lack of maintenance over the years and are included on
the national Heritage at Risk Register published by Historic
England. The Council, in partnership with Historic England,
recognising these as perhaps the most important buildings in Chard,
is trying to find a solution to the unoccupied part, No.9, which
includes the spectacular 'Court Room' with its fine plasterwork of
the early 17th century. To inform our consideration of
the options, a study of the history and significance of the
building has been carried out by Keystone Historic Buildings
Consultants of Exeter which throws new light on aspects of Chard's
history. We also acknowledge the support of the Somerset
Building Preservation Trust in this project.

on the buildings can be read here
