Have your great find identified at CHAC

Have you found an archaeological item of interest? The Community Heritage Access Centre's (CHAC) archaeological finds afternoon could be the place to have it identified.

The next archaeological finds afternoon at CHAC takes place tomorrow, Thursday 12 July 2018 from 2:00pm until 4:00pm. The finds afternoon acts as a regular service to the local community and enhances a shared appreciation of heritage.

The afternoon enables finders of archaeological material to have their finds identified by the Somerset Finds Liaison Officer from the South West Heritage Trust.

With spaces still available on the limited afternoon session, finders are welcome to book their place by calling 01935 462886.

CHAC acts as a hub for finders from across South Somerset to meet the Finds Liaison Officer who is normally based in Taunton. As well as having their find identified, those who attend can also see what else has been found and where.

Councillor Nick Weeks, Portfolio Holder for Heritage at South Somerset District Council said, "This is a really good opportunity for those who have an interest in heritage and archaeology to meet an expert and find out more about what they have found and what else has been found nearby."

The Finds Liaison Team operates under the Portable Antiquities Scheme. This promotes responsible collecting in having items properly identified and recorded, not only with the item itself, but also where the object was found. Details are then entered on a national on-line database for everyone to share and enjoy.
