Taking place every Saturday at 9am, parkrun starts and finishes
near to the Ninesprings Café. The popular run hit a new record on
Saturday 12 January as nearly 500 people took part in this run,
with over 400 now regularly in attendance each week.
The weekly free organised run is usually held in the grounds of
Montacute House but to give the grass a chance to recover over the
winter, it has come to Yeovil Country Park. This volunteer led 5k
follows the cycle path from Yeovil Country Park along the bottom of
Wyndham Hill all the way to the Penn Mill Hotel and back again.
Rachael Whaites, Countryside Manager at South Somerset District
Council who own and manage Yeovil Country Park, said: "It is
fantastic to see so many people taking part in parkrun at Yeovil
Country Park. It is the perfect place to enjoy running
surrounded by countryside and wildlife. I would like to say a huge
thank you to the volunteers who organise this event and the
marshals that help keep everyone safe every week. They are
doing a fantastic job."
Councillor Sylvia Seal, Portfolio Holder for Leisure &
Culture at South Somerset District Council, added: "Following
discussions with the parkrun organisers, South Somerset District
Council were more than happy to promote healthy activities on our
site and welcome parkrun to Yeovil on a weekly basis during the
winter months. Yeovil Country Park is a multi-use site, so to add
parkrun is a great and welcomed addition to the activities that
take place there."
Martin Chaffey, co-event Director of Yeovil Montacute parkrun,
also said: "Each year we move the parkrun away from Montacute to
give the parkland a well-earned break. We enjoyed three years at
Ham Hill but thank SSDC for allowing us to bring parkrun to the
centre of Yeovil. The new B course at Yeovil Country Park has
proved very popular and it's quite a sight to see 400+ runners
charging up and down the paths each week!"
Parkrun will continue to take place at Yeovil Country Park
during the winter months with the last run taking place on Saturday
6 April. There will be no Yeovil Montacute parkrun on 13 and 20
April, with the event returning to its regular home on Montacute
House on 27 April.
Ninesprings Café welcomes runners and spectators from 8am on
Saturday mornings where you can grab a drink or a bite to eat
before or after the event.

Course Description
The course is 5000m (5K) long and is run entirely on tarmac.
Start and finish is adjacent to Goldenstones Leisure Centre. Some
sections of the course may accumulate mud, leaves and puddles after
rain. Dependent on availability, marshals will be at key sections
of the course, or signs will be in place.
