District Council supports local Great British Spring Cleaners

South Somerset District Council (SSDC) is backing the national campaign to get half a million people out and about cleaning up their local community.

With the Great British Spring Clean taking place over the weekend commencing Friday 2 March, the District Council are encouraging residents and Town & Parish Council's to get involved by organising their own clean-up; whether that is over the Spring Clean weekend or during the month of March.

SSDC's Streetscene Services has a number of litter pickers, litter bags, gloves, wet and dry wipes, plus other equipment to loan out that's needed to undertake a clean-up. But be quick, supplies are limited.

Councillor Jo Roundell Greene, Deputy Leader of South Somerset District Council and Portfolio Holder for Environment said, "We are delighted to be supporting this campaign and we encourage as many groups, individuals and organisations as possible to take part.

"Litter remains a huge problem across the country, causing harm to the environment and wildlife, with councils in England having to spend more than £700 million on street cleaning services every year."

The national campaign is organised by Keep Britain Tidy and there are lots of useful tools and information to help event organisers on their website at: www.keepbritaintidy.org/get-involved/support-our-campaigns/great-british-spring-clean.
