Online Claim and Online Calculator

New customers are now able to apply online for Housing and/or Council Tax Support.

Customers can also use our on-line calculator to find out if they may be entitled.


From the 19th April 2017 Universal Credit has rolled out to all of South Somerset. Working age customers who would have made a new claim for Housing Benefit will claim Universal Credit instead.

Please refer to our Universal Credit page if this may affect you and for advice on how to claim Universal Credit. 

Council Tax Support IS NOT included in Universal Credit. However if you have already applied for Universal Credit and advised the Department for Work and Pensions that you have a Council Tax liability they will notify us. We can then use this notification as a claim for Council Tax Support and we will contact you for further information.

  • To protect your privacy, all the information you enter on the form is encrypted
  • You don't have to fill it in all in one go - you can save the form to our server and come back to it later
  • The form will help and guide you as you work through it to ensure that you only fill in the parts that are relevant to your claim
  • The form checks itself for errors and it highlights anything you have missed
  • The form will give you a list of exactly what evidence we need to see to support your claim
  • If you need them, extra forms (for your employer or landlord) can be printed
    straight away
  • As soon as you have completed the form, you can submit it directly to us so
    we can begin processing your claim without delay


New claim for housing benefit and/or council tax support.

You will need to complete all the relevant sections of the form otherwise the claim form cannot be submitted.  If you provide an email address, an electronic acknowledgement will be sent to you via email.  If you do not have an email address or do not wish to provide one, we will send a postal receipt confirming that we have received your application.  This form uses electronic declarations so ticking the appropriate boxes on the declaration page confirms you agree to the conditions set out in the declaration.

You can get an estimate of the amount of benefit you are entitled to by filling in this on line benefit calculator. Please remember it is only an estimate based on the information you supply. If you are unsure how to answer any of the questions, or are thinking of committing to a tenancy you should contact the benefit team on 01935 462462 for advice. Usually, Benefit will only start from the Monday after the Council receives your form; so do not delay making an online application.

Recover a saved form

You can recover a partially completed form.  You will be asked to enter the 10 character reference code you were given when you saved the form.  If you do not have the reference code, you will need to start the form again.
