Our food safety team regularly receives Food Alerts from
the Food Standards Agency. The agency informs local authorities
about problems associated with food, usually in a national context
with implications around the country.
These alerts are often issued in conjunction with a product
withdrawal or recall by a manufacturer, retailer or
distributor.
Instructions are given on the alert as to the specific
action that is required of the local authority. This may involve
visiting local food premises to ensure they are aware of the
problem and that, if necessary, products have been withdrawn. Press
releases may also be issued to local media.
