Ways to pay your Council Tax

We will issue you a council Tax bill showing the charge, any reductions, exemptions, discounts and benefit entitlement, the amount payable by you and the instalment details.

You will normally receive your annual Council Tax bill in March. Normally, you will be offered ten instalments (April through to January), unless you have chosen to pay annually or half yearly. Since April 2013 you now have the right to pay your Council Tax over 12 months instead of 10.

If you would like to pay your Council Tax over 12 months instead of 10 please let us know.  Should you wish to pay this way every year then please state you want 12 instalments from now on every year.   This can be completed by:

You can e-mail us at revenues@southsomerset.gov.uk

Post - Write to us at:

Revenues Team, South Somerset District Council, The Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA20 2HT

The number of instalments will be reduced if the bill is issued after the end of April. If your charge changes during the year you will be sent a revised bill along with revised instalments.

Direct Debit

This is the most cost effective way for us to collect your payment and helps to keep the cost of Council Tax collection down. We have four instalment dates - 1st, 7th, 14th and 25th of the month. You can choose the one that best suits you.

If you wish to pay your Council Tax by direct debit there are different ways to set it up:

  1. Call our Direct Debit hotline 01935 462125 (note: to create a Direct Debit over the phone the person calling needs to be one of the liable persons on the Council Tax bill AND have permission on the bank account to set-up Direct Debits).
  2. Complete the Direct Debit Mandate attached to your bill and return it to us.
  3. Print our and return it with confirmation of the address it is for:

We will keep strictly to the terms of the Direct Debit Guarantee - as shown below:

The Direct Debit Guarantee

All banks and building societies that take part in the Direct Debit scheme offer this guarantee.  The efficiency and security of the scheme is monitored and protected by your own bank or building society.  If the amount to be paid or the payment dates change, you will be told of this at least 10 working days in advance.  If South Somerset District Council or your bank or building society makes an error you are guaranteed a full refund of the amount paid.  You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by telephoning us or by writing to your bank or building society.  Please send a copy of your letter to us at The Council Offices, Brympton Way, Yeovil, Somerset, BA20 2HT.
