SSDC has a long history of working at a local level and this is particularly evident in the Area Working system with four Area Committees, four Area Development Service teams and local Area and Community Offices.
We support voluntary, community and charitable organisations in South Somerset which aim to make South Somerset a better place to live and work.
The Localism Act 2011 is an important piece of legislation for all local councils and is intended to be the Government's main mechanism for taking forward ideas for the "Big Society".
The Somerset Armed Forces Community Covenant brings together charities, local authorities, other public sector organisations, businesses, communities, individuals and the military in a pledge of support between local residents and the Armed Forces community in the County.
